Lovely Readers,
I know this isn't necessarily related but due to my easily amused mind I must tell. On Mythbusters this past week (on Discovery Channel) the gang: Troy, Grant and Kari worked two different versions of a Leather Cannon. They also made their own version. Anyway, I found it amusing that they used a Baby bottle for measurement of black powder. It's even more funny that, I think, I have the same type of bottle. I bet Kari brought it from home. I've never seen the show use them any other time.
I wonder if she Breastfeeds or does Formula? I would think she nurses but that's bias since I would believe that Vegetarians try to do what's more healthy for their family and them. Breastfeeding their child would be that. I also know many Vegetarians, while Pregnant, who stop being Vegetarian mainly due to the high Protein cravings. Now if you go by the Bewer Pregnancy Diet, which I did, you have to eat 80-100 grams(gm) of Protein a day. The good part of high Protein diet while Pregnant is you bleed less. My child and I loss less than the typical amount of blood and I recovered very quickly too. I do not know if the quick recovery was a mental or physical thing though.
Anyway, I just wanted to state that.
G'night.
My Readers,
The changes going on in our Babies astound me. My Son is a little over 15 weeks old and has gone through so many changes since his birth. At 3 months, he hit a growth spurt. Since then he has been demanding assistance to stand, practically screaming any time he needs anything and when he's happy. He's also eating more often and napping more than before. He's started waking up more at night too to eat. Previously, he was awake more during the day and ate on a schedule of every 2-3 hours.
It amazes me that so much occurs during just a few weeks. He looks so different than when he was born: more weight, taller/longer, head looks normal, forehead longer, jaw position changing, more and less hair in various places and so more.
Mentally: he's finally responsive to smiles, voices and other stimuli. He wants to get mobile so bad and is a rather quick learner. I show him something a few times then he gets it and does it. It's amazing. I showed him about thumb placement when grabbing his foot and within a week he was grabbing both feet and toys easily.
I know every Parent especially new ones want to do the my-kid-is-better- faster-smarter-than-yours. I'm guilty of it but try not to rub it in anyone's face. Like my little guy can say Mama and Mommy but doesn't understand the meaning. He know when he says it he gets me which is interesting. Shows his potential intelligence. Now if only I could get him to say "Da."
As for clothing, that has become my bane of existence. He's 17 lbs at 15 weeks and is wear 6-12 month clothing (depending on the brand). This is why I started looking into making Baby clothing. Just need to find out the kind of material is good to use for what type of clothing.
In fact, I am nearly done with my first attempt with making a onesie out of a t-shirt. I realize that t-shirts are very stretchy and need binding on part of it to reinforce where the snaps/velcro would be. Also need to learn what do about the end of sleeves and the binding. Normal straight stitching has not gone well.
Enough on sewing, the point is the quick growing and changing of our Babies is amazing and precious. I remember watching on, I believe, it was either National Geographic Channel or Discovery Health Channel about children from Birth through their first year. Did you know they can learn arithmetic? When things don't make sense they stare at it for a long time (for them). There was a psychologist studying newborns through toddlerhood and it's amazing what they learn and what you can learn from their responses. I can see why that "Your Baby Can Read" could be possibly legit.
Also on that show, I learned that with every new learning stage you need to reinforce the old skills or they can be forgotten just to be relearned again. And once they hit between 9-12 months, they catch up with the rest of mammals when they are born. It's fascinating. We have to go through another 9 months at least just to learn the basics of how to live and function. It makes me wonder why we have evolved this way and what we were like previously.
I do know Breastfeeding has evolved. Breastfeeding use to occur until around the age of 7 when now it's more like 5 years of age. It is also interesting that through studies that even Malnourished mothers have the same good quality of breastmilk as well-balanced eating mothers; however, the Malnourished Mother pays the price since the vitamins, minerals and such are taken from her body which causes more damage. It's why Breastfeeding Mothers need more food/calories and why they have higher cholesterol- it's put in the milk for Baby to injest.
As I recall, this information was published in a Medical magazine called, I think, Pediatrix/cs. I don't know when though. Sorry. I do try to inform you of my sources when I recall them if not link them to you.
Well, G'night.
Hello New and Previous Readers,
I have taken over this blog for several reasons:
1. It hasn't been used since 2008.
2. I like the website address.
3. I always wanted my own domain.
I plan to do my best to write information from experience and research. I hope you can bare with me with my new blog.
And if you have questions, comments and/or concerns, feel free to comment. Thank you.

Lovely Readers,
1. Doctors are NOT God.
2. Doctors are NOT medical know-it-alls.
These are very important to remember.
I say this because many first time Parents tend to hang on the every word of Doctors especially when it comes to their children. You can research too. The Internet is your best friend but remember to check the sources of your information. Also the Library is a wonderful source of information and they have people to help you.
I am stating this as I have run into many people especially women while I was pregnant who were not educated on their bodies and what's going on in there. Ignorance is Not bliss. It does not make sense. It's like a breastfeeding Mom taking medication without researching if it will go into her milk, affect her milk supply or how it may effect her child. Doctors don't usually know that.
In fact, when it comes to breastfeeding, Doctors or Nurses are NOT required to have any formal education on breastfeeding, breastmilk or how/what it does or a/effects. Lactation Consultants do. They understand it all and keep up with the current information available. An alternate source for assistance is the La Leche League International, their trained Leaders go through at least a year of training and education. Even if you don't need assistance, there is nothing wrong with going to meetings for friendship, education/information and to meet other Moms. And, of course, they do welcome formula feeding Moms as the La Leche League International is not just about Breastfeeding but also Mothering and taking care of your child(ren).
Now as for Doctors while Pregnant, Obstetricians are usually rather informed but still double check the information. Anything you put in or do to your body either while pregnant or breastfeeding will go to/effect your Baby even if it's minimal.
The American Academy of Pediatrics is a good source for Parents on what is OK while Pregnant and Breastfeeding or children information too. They usually explain why too. A website I like to research medical information on is http://www.webmd.com/
To summarize: Research, research, research. Be informed and educated especially when effects your family or yourself.
Also there are always people out there who have been through what you're going through. Forums are a wonderful thing.

I admit I didn't have the delusion about Doctors due to the years of experience I've had with them. I understand much "doctor-ese" which has come in handy in the last year. The only thing that bothers me about Doctors are those that don't listen. This has happened twice, once while Pregnant and once with my child at an appointment.
The Doctor while pregnant is the most memorable: I just finished my ultrasound and the Doctor came to talk to me. He explained about statistics on my Son's size then started up on vaccines. H1n1 has been a big deal especially for pregnant women, children and the elderly as immune systems can be stressed or compromised.. 1. I don't get vaccines anymore as I alway get sick or react to them, 2. I always research the new vaccine, and 3. I wait at least 5 years before getting a vaccine to see the long term effects. (Look at Gardisil which has at least one case against it.) With h1n1, I already experienced the illness the Fall before I became pregnant. On top of that, I lived in the Philippines previously which means I have been exposed and have antibodies built up. Now, I still became sick but it was nothing compared to my Husband who could not keep anything in him for nearly 2 days. I explained this to the Doctor who gave me a blank stare then proceeded to attempt to scare me into getting the vaccine and insinuated I was lying. I made sure to never see him again. I don't lie to Doctors since it can effect my health in the long run.
NEVER lie to Doctors. NEVER let a Doctor scare you into anything. You can ALWAYS refuse to be treated. You can ask for ANOTHER Doctor to treat you. There are ALWAYS other options.
I know it may seem like a lot to do and/or think about but being an informed individual is important and useful.
Good Evening.
