For Sarah

angel of hope
For Little Sarah...

When a parent dies, you lose your past; when a child dies, you lose your future.
- Anonymous

My heart broke the moment my mom called and told me that her friend's granddaughter had passed away. Sweet little Sarah, only two and half years old had brightened up their lives. Now she was gone. And it made me think of my own son Trace and all we had been through with his health problems.

Trace is two and half years old, born shortly before or after Sarah was. Our son was ill right from birth. Yet unlike Sarah. Trace managed to outgrown many of his disabilities after being diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy.

The doctors never did figure out what was wrong with little Sarah. She didn't walk. She didn't really talk. But she was so beautiful with a smile like the sun. I know because my mother sent me a pic of her, and her smile brought tears to my eyes.

A wife who loses a husband is called a widow. A husband who loses a wife is called a widower. A child who loses his parents is called an orphan. But...there is no word for a parent who loses a child, that's how awful the loss is! - Neugeboren 1976, 154

We didn't know Sarah or her family personally. My mom and Sarah's grandmother are good friends. But her passing touched my heart and made me weep for her parents. I cannot even begin to describe my heartache for them and my family wish to send them our deepest condolences over the loss of their little angel as she fought to live her life. It is unfair and I know no manner of words can describe what they are going through in facing such an unfortunate pain right now without her.

For Sarah (2006-2008)

We heard today the terrible news about your baby girl.
My heart began to weep for you at the loss of your shining pearl.
So sweet and innocent, a fighter and brave little soul.
I'm saddened she is no longer with you more than you will ever know.

Our hearts cry for you and your family during this difficult time.
Little Sarah no longer with you is such a horrible crime.
We know no words we can say to ease the pain you both must feel.
Or the horrible distinction this is all a bad dream and something not very real.

We wanted to you know our love and support is with you whenever you need
Despite not knowing us, those of us care about your impending grief.
So from my family to yours I leave you now to deal with your hurt there.
And we send you this message of our condolence to you with this little prayer.

To Sarah's family & Sheila and her husband the rest of the family members we are deeply sorry for your loss. From our family to yours

There is truly nothing worse than losing a child. It doesn't mater what age the child is, whether infant or grown. There is no healing, only adjustment and the hole they leave can never be filled. Children are a gift from God, meant to be loved and treasured.

My sympathies to Sarah's family.

Beautiful tribute.

Thank Cheryl. I'm going to the funeral on Saturday and really to be honest I wrote about her because I think everyone (especially little ones) should never be forgotten.

As a mother and a woman I feel things deeply even for those I do not know when they are in pain.

Writing about it helps me get my feelings out, and with my son the same age going through medical problems I can relate to the fears, anxiety and heartbreak of watching your child suffer at times. I'm just sad Sarah didn't get the chance to continue her life.

Thanks for the comments again.

JP I cannot express how sorry I am. There is nothing to say. Send love to your mum and let's all love our children even more.
